Important Boat Safety News – Engine Cut-Off Switch – New Law Effective April 1
Boaters, please be aware of the new Federal law, effective April 1, requiring operators of certain boats to properly use the engine cutoff switch (safety lanyard) or wireless engine cutoff device whenever traveling on plane.
This law applies to boats 26 feet and below operating on Federal waters, which include Lake Michigan.
The engine cutoff switch is designed to prevent a boat-strike injury if an operator is accidentally ejected overboard or knocked away from control of the boat while underway.
